Maria’s turning point
A Connected Family Keeps Their Home

After 30 years of marriage, Maria was faced with divorce. She and her husband had bought a home that they hoped would prove to be a great investment. Maria’s husband had been the primary breadwinner in the household, but now she would have to find a way to cover the mortgage on her own. Her husband gave her the option of living in the house until the bank evicted her. She was scared and didn’t know what to do. But Maria was determined to keep her home.

Maria’s sister lived with her and contributed to paying the mortgage. Her daughter soon moved in and contributed as well. Yet, they were not able to cover the mortgage payment even after pooling all of their funds. They were becoming increasingly worried they would lose their home after all. So Maria began researching any and all available resources in the community. She came across an LEDC flyer and reached out immediately.

"I found a lot of support in Patricia. She was very friendly. Once I had all of my paperwork in order I went to her and, together, we took everything to the bank. "

Together, they obtained all of the documents necessary to apply for a home loan modification. With Patricia’s assistance and Maria’s determination, they were able to save Maria’s home.

“It’s hard to believe. These services helped us in every way. It feels like you're talking to someone who may not be in in the same situation as you, but still understands and knows where you are coming from.”
